RF — TFW-55 / Phase A: Project North Star Essay

Date: 2026-08-26 Author: Codex Executor Status: 🟢 RF — Complete; ready for /tfw-review Parent HL: HL-TFW-55 Phase HL: Phase A derivation TS: TS Phase A ONB: Executor onboarding

1. What Was Done

New Files

File Description
phase-a/ONB__phase-a__canonical_foundation_essay.md Executor understanding, source citations, claim conflicts, risks, and no-blocker admission
phase-a/evidence/EV__phase-a__canonical_foundation_essay.md Nine AC mappings, source/claim ledger, purpose tests, authority scenarios, BoK check, subtraction ledger, and raw local checks
phase-a/RF__phase-a__canonical_foundation_essay.md Execution attestation and review handoff

Modified Files

File Changes
.tfw/README.md Rewritten as a 1,548-word problem-led English Project North Star with selected Trace, human/agent authority, methodology architecture, proportional Editions, NS1NS3, and authority routing
README.md TFW-55 Task Board control row moved through ONB to RF and linked to the Phase A artifacts; public prose was not changed

No master/Phase contract, translation, BoK, framework-mechanics, Edition, adapter, configuration, runtime, brand, TFW-54, temporary, or research file was modified by this execution.

2. Key Decisions

  1. Used literal HTML IDs ns1, ns2, and ns3 before visible Markdown headings. This gives Phase B stable direct links without depending on renderer slug rules.
  2. Kept one functional definition after the reader's discontinuity problem. Methodology is explicitly owner positioning supported by function/composition/exclusions, not a research-proven category or novelty claim.
  3. Defined Trace as selected material continuity and excluded transcript, hidden reasoning, complete memory, automatic truth, and identical reproduction. This preserves continuability without converting provenance into correctness.
  4. Made the human boundary explicit: purpose, legitimate authority, judgment, acceptance, accountability, and stop responsibility remain human/institutional; agent work is bounded and escalation-aware.
  5. Treated Light, Assisted, and Full as proportional realizations and only one observed founder-led route. No comprehension, retention, transfer, adoption, superiority, or field-effect claim was made.
  6. Routed mechanics, practical start, and history to existing files. The future approved/versioned BoK receives one subordinate authority sentence and remains a separate post-review task.
  7. Kept all provenance and claim dispositions inside the normal EV/RF trace rather than creating a public claims or governance surface.

Deviations from TS: None.

3. Acceptance Criteria

  • [x] AC-1 — Problem-led definition and architecture: the essay opens with invisible/discontinuous delegated work, then states Philosophy of Trace → TFW methodology → realizations and the repository's self-applying reference role.
  • [x] AC-2 — Trace and continuability: selected material Trace, ordinary-language F1–F4 semantics, result/current state, continuation/close, and risk-proportional assurance are explicit; private labels remain absent.
  • [x] AC-3 — Human/agent authority boundary: purpose, authority, judgment, acceptance, accountability, stop, bounded delegation, sufficient-not-total understanding, observability limits, and contextual memory interests are explicit.
  • [x] AC-4 — Citable Project North Star: NS1, NS2, and NS3 are directly linkable, operational, capable of rejecting excess, and remain within the fixed word ceiling.
  • [x] AC-5 — Evidence-bounded claims: every listed old/new overclaim is removed, qualified, or retained with source/reason; novelty, Taylorism, and field-effect claims are absent.
  • [x] AC-6 — Bounded self-awareness and Editions: all six operational questions and non-sentience/non-authority limits are present; Editions remain proportional rather than doctrinal.
  • [x] AC-7 — Authority/update paths: North Star, living mechanics, corpus/history, and future subordinate BoK each resolve to one destination; no working Obsidian authority or new governance surface appears.
  • [x] AC-8 — Concise/coherent/navigation: English prose is 1,548 words and 105 lines; 9/9 local links and 3/3 literal anchors pass; detailed mechanics remain linked outward.
  • [x] AC-9 — Reviewable provenance/subtraction: EV contains all nine mappings, 20 claim dispositions, before/final counts, subtraction classes, purpose/authority tests, BoK completeness, raw outputs, and consistent statuses.

4. Verification

The configured build.lint, build.test, and build.verify commands are unconfigured echo placeholders and are not evidence for this Markdown-only phase. The TS-defined document gates were run instead.

Check Result
Whitespace-delimited word count PASS — 1,548 ≤ 2,000
Line count 105 final vs 165 baseline; net -60
Local Markdown links PASS — 9 checked, 0 failures
Stable North Star IDs PASS — ns1, ns2, ns3 each occurs exactly once
Private completeness labels PASS — zero public F1F4/R1 labels
Heading/narrative order PASS — problem → chat → Trace → continuation → human authority → operational self-awareness → architecture → Editions → North Star → authority
Forbidden Phase B files PASS — README.ru.md and README.kk.md were not created; root public prose unchanged
Contract immutability PASS — master HL has no diff from a60bc6d; Phase HL/TS have no diff from c5da85e
Whitespace/error lint PASS — git diff --check
EV consistency/placeholders PASS — 9 N/A evidence rows agree with TS, 9/9 document gates pass, zero unfilled fields

Master DoD / DoF

Contract group Phase A result
DoD 1, 3–10, 14–15 PASS — all applicable essay, authority, evidence-boundary, source-trace, and scope requirements are satisfied
DoD 2 PASS for Phase A — .tfw/README.md states the four-way authority model; the root designation remains the contractually sequenced Phase B half
DoD 17 PRE-SATISFIED — the two approved RES iterations recorded competing configurations, negative evidence, and surviving decisions before this execution
DoD 11–13 N/A to Phase A — multilingual root doorways, their budgets, language switch, parity, and review are Phase B
DoD 16 PARTIAL BY DESIGN — the reviewed North Star will supply the philosophy, but derivation also depends on the later approved BoK; no guide work belongs here
DoD 18 PASS for Phase A — .tfw/README.md supplies citable NS1NS3 and rejective non-goals; root visibility remains Phase B
DoF 1–8, 10, 12–16 NOT TRIGGERED
DoF 9, 11, 17 N/A to Phase A root/translation work; no such files or prose were changed

No Definition-of-Failure condition was observed within Phase A scope.

5. Evidence

Cognitive mode: Observational verification — evidence lives in the EV file, not inline.

See EV Phase A for full evidence details.

Evidence verdict: 0/9 VERIFIED, 0 DEFERRED, 0 BLOCKED, 9 N/A.

Document-gate verdict: 9/9 PASS. All N/A classifications are TS-prescribed because this phase makes no live-environment or human-effect claim.

6. Observations (out-of-scope, not modified)

No observations.

The known pre-existing dirty TFW-54 and TFW-55 research/tmp paths were treated as shared-checkout state, not as product findings, and were neither edited nor staged by this execution.

7. Fact Candidates

fact-candidates: processed 2026-08-30

No fact candidates. Owner architecture and evidence boundaries were already present in the approved contract and cited sources before execution; no new human-only project fact was supplied during handoff.

8. Strategic Insights (Execution)

fact-candidates: processed 2026-08-30

No strategic insights. Execution applied the owner-approved TS without new human domain corrections or scope decisions.

9. Diagrams

No diagrams. The deliverable is a narrative authority surface; its relevant architecture and routing are stated directly and verified through links/scenarios in EV.
