ONB — TFW-55 / Phase A: Project North Star Essay

Date: 2026-08-26 Author: Codex Executor Status: 🟠 ONB — complete; no blocking questions Parent HL: HL-TFW-55 Phase HL: Phase A derivation TS: TS Phase A Contract baseline: a60bc6dce1dd467251f3868ba468fbb429d35fe0 Execution baseline: c5da85ed531c00ce22e91ba34d30b69722561411

1. Understanding

Rewrite only .tfw/README.md as the English Project North Star essay under the unchanged 2,000-word ceiling. The narrative must begin with the loss of invisible intellectual work, define a selected Trace and continuability, preserve human authority under bounded delegation, then state the approved Philosophy of Trace → TFW methodology → realizations architecture. It must provide directly linkable NS1, NS2, and NS3 sections, distinguish stable meaning from mechanics and history, and mention a future approved BoK only as a subordinate authority owned by a separate post-review task. Phase A also creates its normal ONB, EV, RF, and Task Board trace; it does not create REVIEW.

The frozen master contract, approved Phase HL, and approved TS agree materially. Owner approval is already recorded. No new approval or contract interpretation is required before execution.

2. Entry Points

3. Questions (blocking — cannot proceed without answers)

No blocking questions. The owner-approved master amendments A2–A5 and the Phase contracts resolve category, North Star, BoK, language, scope, and word-budget decisions.

4. Recommendations (suggestions, not blocking)

  1. Use explicit HTML IDs (ns1, ns2, ns3) before ordinary Markdown headings so Phase B can cite stable anchors without depending on renderer-specific slug generation.
  2. Keep mechanics behind local links and describe Light, Assisted, and Full in one bounded paragraph; this funds the North Star inside the existing ceiling.
  3. Preserve claim dispositions and source accounting only in EV/RF, so the public essay remains one narrative rather than a claims register.

5. Risks Found (edge cases, potential issues not in TS)

  1. Several owner-source sentences are intentionally stronger than the approved contract: deterministic reproduction, total pre-delegation understanding, observability as trust, and absolute memory ownership all require qualification.
  2. The current essay contains historical absolutes about regenerated code, self-maintaining documentation, one deterministic lifecycle, the same artifacts in every domain, lossless context, and output needing no manual editing. Retaining them would fail AC-2, AC-3, AC-5, or AC-6.
  3. The working BoK contains a maturity model, hypotheses, open questions, candidate practices, and unresolved contradictions. It may check completeness but cannot supply canonical assertions or a Phase A outline.
  4. Directory and anchor links can appear plausible while remaining renderer-dependent or broken. EV must resolve every local target and check the three literal IDs.
  5. Pre-existing dirty TFW-54 and TFW-55 research/tmp paths share the checkout. All staging must name only Phase A-approved paths.

6. Inconsistencies with Code (spec vs reality)

There is no blocking implementation mismatch. The relevant source-versus-contract differences are rewrite inputs:

Source state Approved treatment
Current .tfw/README.md presents Full artifacts and a deterministic lifecycle as the method Replace with problem-led methodology prose; route mechanics outward
Mini-essay 03 says one cannot delegate what one does not understand Require enough understanding to set purpose, bounds, acceptance, authority, and escalation; do not require total domain mastery
Mini-essay 04 implies the same result can be reproduced and assigns memory absolutely Promise inspectable/continuable work, not identical output; make ownership depend on legal, organizational, privacy, security, and IP context
Mini-essay 05 links autonomy and observability strongly Keep observability necessary for inspection and correction, never sufficient for correctness
Mini-essay 08 treats the BoK as future canon and includes Taylorism Mention only a future approved/versioned/subordinate BoK; omit Taylorism
Iteration 2 did not prove methodology, a universal learning path, or human comprehension Present methodology as owner positioning and Editions as proportional realizations/one observed route, with no field-effect claim

7. Knowledge Citations

# HL §7.2 ref Read? Applied / N/A Notes
1 README.md — landing, Editions, Quick Start, Task Board Applied Preserve public prose; update only the TFW-55 control row and route essay readers to existing entry surfaces.
2 [.tfw/README.md](../../../concepts/philosophy.md) — existing philosophy paper Applied Use as subtraction/rewrite material; do not create a second canon file.
3 KNOWLEDGE.mdD2, D35, D40, D52D60 Applied Preserve surface separation, domain breadth, evidence boundaries, proportional Editions, and capability-claim distinctions.
4 knowledge/philosophy.md — F3, F6, F8, F10–F16, F21–F25, F32–F33 Applied Keep critical challenge, decision infrastructure, domain independence, live-artifact teaching, and simplification without historical absolutes.
5 [.tfw/conventions.md](../../../reference/conventions.md) — §§3, 11, 14 Applied Enforce the North Star purpose check, token density, no placeholders, evidence, role lock, and anti-patterns.
6 knowledge/convention.md — F7, F9, F17–F19 Applied Use a small principle set and newcomer-readable naming; do not preserve brand or terminology claims merely because they are historical.
7 knowledge/process.md — F2, F11, F16, F22, F25, F27 Applied Treat founder language as sourced material, audit content claims, avoid research-shaped overhead, and make the board transition observable.
8 knowledge/constraint.md — F2, F3, F6–F7 Applied Keep the essay compact, avoid filler, respect the repository's dual identity, and use domain-neutral evidence.
9 knowledge/domain.md — F1–F3 Applied Lead through recognizable loss/continuity pains and keep the repository memory/tool portability claim bounded.
10 knowledge/stakeholder.md — F1, F4 Applied Lead with value and preserve a low-friction path before technical mechanics.
11 TFW-32 Phase D — audience, positioning, generates/stores Applied critically Retain useful problem language; remove same-artifact, automatic-maintenance, novelty, hidden-reasoning, and lossless claims.
12 TFW-51/52 — simplification and Editions Applied Treat Light, Assisted, and Full as independently usable proportional realizations, not a universal maturity law.
13 TFW-55 RES Iteration 1 Applied Use the corpus/essay/spec authority split and keep the framework-only challenger as the overclaim control.
14 TFW-55 RES Iteration 2 Applied Use F1–F4/R1 privately, reject component novelty, and preserve the proportionality/evidence stop.
15 Книга TFW/мини-эссе 0.8/ — nine essays Applied Use the problem-led explanatory sequence and owner voice while narrowing listed claims and avoiding long quotations.
16 Книга TFW/body of knowledge/00. Архитектура TFW.md Applied Use the owner-approved Philosophy of Trace → methodology → realization architecture.
17 Книга TFW/body of knowledge/version 0.1.md Applied as final check Check ontology, contradictions, hypotheses, risks, and non-goals; keep all unresolved material non-canonical.

No new knowledge item is required to execute this phase.
