REVIEW — TFW-29: Consistency Audit¶
Date: 2026-04-08 Author: Reviewer (AI) Verdict: ✅ APPROVE RF: RF TFW-29 TS: TS TFW-29
1. Review Checklist¶
| # | Check | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | DoD met? (all TS acceptance criteria) | ✅ | All 10 acceptance criteria pass. See §1.1 below for item-by-item verification |
| 2 | Code quality (conventions, naming, type hints) | ✅ | gen_docs.py change is minimal (1 STATIC_SOURCES entry + docstring). All other changes are .md files — consistent formatting, correct markdown structure |
| 3 | Test coverage (tests written and passing) | N/A | No code logic changes. gen_docs.py addition is a static config entry — existing test infrastructure covers it |
| 4 | Philosophy aligned (matches HL design philosophy) | ✅ | HL §7 principles (Single Source of Truth, Glossary=vocabulary / Conventions=rules, No signal loss) are respected throughout. Every cut is either moved or already existed elsewhere |
| 5 | Tech debt (shortcuts documented?) | ✅ | Glossary 149 vs 130 target documented in RF §2 D1 with clear rationale. Concept Taxonomy retention documented in RF §2 D2. Three out-of-scope observations recorded in RF §5 |
| 6 | Security (no secrets exposed, guards in place) | N/A | Documentation-only changes, no secrets or auth involved |
| 7 | Breaking changes (backward compat, migrations) | ✅ | §16 stub preserved — existing refs to "conventions.md §16" still land on a valid section. No workflow §-references broken (grep verified). compilable_contract.md self-reference (row 14) ensures docs pipeline picks it up |
| 8 | Style & standards (code style, conventions) | ✅ | Glossary 1-liners follow consistent pattern: short definition + → conventions.md §N. References use relative links. gen_docs.py tuple format matches existing entries |
| 9 | Observations collected (executor reported findings) | ✅ | 3 observations in RF §5, all typed and actionable. FC1 in RF §6 is well-formed |
1.1 Acceptance Criteria Verification¶
| # | TS Criterion | Status | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC1 | conventions.md §16 → 3-line stub | ✅ | Lines 314-318: abstract + link to compilable_contract.md |
| AC2 | .tfw/compilable_contract.md exists with full §16 content |
✅ | 115 lines. Source Manifest, Reference Format, Frontmatter, Output Nav all present. Self-reference row #14 added |
| AC3 | conventions.md §10 numbering sequential | ✅ | §10 (line 208) → §10.1 (line 215) → §10.2 (line 233). Correct order |
| AC4 | glossary.md: no duplicated full definitions | ✅ | All artifact types compressed to 1-liners + → conventions.md §3. Status Flow = 1-line diagram + ref. Task Naming = 1-liner + ref |
| AC5 | glossary.md meta-only terms removed | ✅ | Removed: Workflow (canonical), .tfw/ Directory, Execution Engine, Progress Reporting, tfw-init/release/update descriptions. Concept Taxonomy kept per ONB §6 — justified |
| AC6 | AGENTS.md lists all 11 workflows | ✅ | Lines 29-39: plan, research/base, handoff, review, resume, docs, knowledge, init, config, release, update |
| AC7 | .agent/rules/agents.md synced, no handoff→REVIEW error |
✅ | Workflow list matches AGENTS.md. handoff = "ONB → develop → RF" (no "→ REVIEW") |
| AC8 | .agent/rules/tfw.md references .tfw/ directly |
✅ | Lines 19-20: .tfw/conventions.md and .tfw/glossary.md (not non-existent .agent/rules copies) |
| AC9 | .tfw/README.md anti-patterns = ref to §14 |
✅ | Line 107: > Full list → [conventions.md §14](conventions.md#14-anti-patterns-prohibited) |
| AC10 | No workflow §-reference broken | ✅ | grep confirms: 0 §16 refs in workflows. All §10 refs in plan.md, research/base.md, knowledge.md, resume.md resolve correctly |
2. Verdict¶
✅ APPROVE
The task delivers what it promised: conventions.md reduced 25% (426→318), glossary.md reduced 22% (191→149), all semantic duplications eliminated or compressed to refs, §16 cleanly extracted, adapter files corrected. The glossary 149-line result vs 130-line target is well-justified by research (RES D1: 15 unique terms used by 5+ workflows). ONB quality was high — Q1 (gen_docs.py) and all 4 recommendations were valuable catches.
Issues noted (non-blocking)¶
-
Glossary structural issue:
### Fact Candidateand### Strategic Insight(glossary lines 42-46) are placed under the## Artifact Typesheading. These are not artifact types — they are concepts that appear within artifacts (RF §6, HL §11). They were standalone##entries in the old glossary. Should be their own##sections. Minor, does not block approval. -
8 template files still reference "conventions.md §16.2": HL.md, ONB.md, TS.md, RES.md, RF.md, REVIEW.md (×2), TOPIC_FILE.md. The refs are not broken (§16 stub exists and links forward), but they are now indirect. RF §5 obs. #3 noted only the RF template — the scope is wider. Follow-up needed.
-
KNOWLEDGE.md has 4 stale "§16" refs (lines 19, 39, 80, 108): RF §5 obs. #1 correctly flagged this. Out of scope, deferred to next tfw-docs.
-
TD-60 resolved, TD-61 not: The §10 numbering fix (TD-60) is done. But TD-61 (glossary RESEARCH entry still says "Optional — user can skip with confirmation" — duplicating plan.md logic) remains. The glossary RESEARCH entry was shortened but this specific duplication survived.
3. Tech Debt Collected¶
| # | Source | Severity | File(s) | Description | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TD-83 | TFW-29 RF obs. #1 | Low | KNOWLEDGE.md L19, 39, 80, 108 |
References to "conventions.md §16" are now imprecise — §16 is a stub, full content in compilable_contract.md. Not broken, but indirect | → next tfw-docs |
| TD-84 | TFW-29 RF obs. #3 + REVIEW | Med | 7 template files | Templates reference "conventions.md §16.2" — should point to compilable_contract.md §2. Files: HL.md L123, ONB.md L32, TS.md L49, RES.md L51, RF.md L67, REVIEW.md L39/L70, TOPIC_FILE.md L7 |
→ backlog |
| TD-85 | TFW-29 RF obs. #2 | Low | .tfw/conventions.md L198-203 |
§9 Tool Adapter Pattern example only shows CLAUDE.md and .cursor/rules — doesn't mention .agent/rules | → backlog |
| TD-86 | TFW-29 REVIEW | Low | .tfw/glossary.md L42-46 |
Fact Candidate and Strategic Insight placed under ## Artifact Types heading — they are not artifact types. Should be standalone ## sections |
→ backlog |
Resolved Tech Debt¶
| # | Resolution |
|---|---|
| TD-60 | ✅ Fixed — §10 now before §10.1/§10.2 |
4. Traces Updated¶
- [x] README Task Board — status updated to 🔍 REV (will become ✅ DONE)
- [x] TECH_DEBT.md — TD-83, TD-84, TD-85, TD-86 appended; TD-60 marked resolved
- [ ] tfw-docs: N/A (minor — no KNOWLEDGE.md or TECH_DEBT structural changes beyond new items)
5. Fact Candidates¶
| # | Category | Candidate | Source | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FC1 | process | Glossary compression has a practical floor: ~104 content lines (149 with headers). Line count targets for documentation reduction should be research-informed, not aspirational. Research-before-targets pattern validated. | RF TFW-29 §2 D1, RES TFW-29 D1 | High |
| FC2 | convention | Template §16.2 references create a "reference chain" problem when content is extracted — 8 files reference a location that becomes a stub. Future extractions should grep all §N references across templates, not just workflows. |
REVIEW TFW-29 §2 issue #2 | High |
